A search engine for developers to find Github Repos, youtube tutorials, online courses, and documentation faster. DevXplore basically categorizes search results for developers into relevant categories like Youtube, Github, Code Play, Courses, etc.
<h3>Why I made DevXplore?</h3>
As a developer, I constantly refer to the documentation of frameworks or libraries I used, Stackoverflow is frequently used by me, Youtube tutorials are also needed and there's always a tab of Github open in my browser.
Before DevXplore, my only medium to these resources was a google search. Even if I wanted to search for a GitHub repository only or for just a resource I have to scroll through all the results and focus on the domain name of the result to get to my desired result, it was effective but a little bit slow.
Then one day an idea struck my mind what if a search engine classifies the search results into several relevant categories for developers? Just like current search engines, which classifies search results into categories like images, news, and videos, etc. This is when I started developing DevXplore.
<h3>How I made DevXplore?</h3>
<ol>
<li>
Frontend: DevXplore uses MaterializeCSS for its UI part. There is no Javascript library used in DevXplore, however MaterializeCSS requires some scripts for adding interactivity to the site.</li>
<li>
API: DevXplore uses Google’s Custom Search API for fetching search results for a query. DevXplore uses the free plan of this API, which allows users to make 100 queries per day.</li>
<li>
Backend: DevXplore uses Django at its backend to serve its webpages. The results fetched from Google’s Custom Search API are then categorized into several relevant categories at the backend.</li>
</ol>
Before starting to code, I researched all the Search APIs available and the only free and relevant one I found was Google’s Custom Search API. I used Django at the backend because I have been developing a lot using Django. Personally, I like material design, that’s why I chose MaterializeCSS as the CSS library of this project.

Why and How I made DevXplore(search engine)?

Hello, computer people,
You’ve read the title, so you know we are not making a magical potion that will get you employed(we need it).
We are transforming Ubuntu into Chrome OS (who doesn’t like the material design?), but only the UI part.
<h4>This tutorial is divided into 3 parts:</h4>
<ol>
<li>Install the Gnome tweak tool.
</li>
<li>Installing and applying Chrome OS shell and GTK themes.</li>
<li>Installing a material design-based icon theme.</li>
</ol>
<h3>1. Install Gnome tweak tool</h3>
Run these 2 beautiful commands in your terminal to install the Gnome tweak tool.
<blockquote>$ sudo add-apt-repository universe $ sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool</blockquote>
That was quick!
<h3>2. Installing and applying Chrome OS shell and GTK themes</h3>
Chrome OS GTK Theme: Go to <a href="https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1335019/">https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1335019/</a> and download the ChromeOS-dark.tar.xz from the download button on the right side of the page.

Now in your downloads folder, you will have 2 files named ChromeOS-dark.tar.xz and ChromeOS-dark-shell.tar.xz. Extract them in the same folder. The extracted folders will be of the name ChromeOS-dark and ChromeOS-dark-shell.
Now use the below given magical commands to copy these folders in the .themes directory present in the home directory of your system, where the Gnome tweak tool looks for new themes.
<blockquote>cp -Ri “&lt;path-to-downloads&gt;/ChromeOS-dark” ~/.themes</blockquote>
<blockquote>cp -Ri “&lt;path-to-downloads&gt;/ChromeOS-dark-shell” ~/.themes</blockquote>
PS: Replace “&lt;path-to-downloads&gt;” with the path to the Downloads folder of your system, which most probably is “~/Downloads”
Now open Gnome Tweak Tool and go to the Appearance section. In Applications dropdown select Chrome OS-dark and Shell dropdown select Chrome OS-dark-shell.

We have done it. Now let’s change our icons.
<h3>3. Installing a material design-based icon theme.</h3>
For resembling Chrome OS, Papirus Icon theme is a good option. It’s a material-design based icon theme with a flat style.
To install this, go to <a href="https://www.pling.com/p/1166289">https://www.pling.com/p/1166289</a> and download the papirus-icon-theme.tar.xz.

To copy the files use the below given magical command.
<blockquote>cp -Ri “&lt;path-to-downloads&gt;/papirus-icon-theme” ~/.icons</blockquote>
PS: Replace “&lt;path-to-downloads&gt;” with the path to the Downloads folder of your system, which most probably is “~/Downloads”
Now open Gnome Tweak Tool and go to the Appearance section. In Icons dropdown select Papirus-Dark (I am a dark mode fan).

How to make Ubuntu look like Chrome OS ?

This article is about why Internet Explorer is not that popular like it was back then in the first decade of the 21st century.

Let’s talk about the old days when the Internet was a new thing and computers were more like a magic box! Browsers available at that time were not up to the mark until Internet Explorer Stepped into the Market. Here’s a description of what made IE different from other browsers.
Internet Explorer 3 which was released in 1996 was the first browser to implement <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascading_Style_Sheets">CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) </a>and not only this it introduced features like Java applets and ActiveX controls.
Then in 1997 Internet Explorer introduced Dynamic HTML, which allows you to change the content of an HTML page dynamically using Javascript.
In 1999, with Internet Explorer 5 series introduced in the Market, Microsoft did a very revolutionary invention (you are going to be amazed)!. In the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_(programming)">AJAX</a>, Microsoft introduced the XMLHttpRequest which works at the heart of many famous websites like Facebook, Instagram, and WordPress, etc.
So, Microsoft did everything to be called the “best browser”. So what happened afterward, why did Internet Explorer lost its grip on the market? We will discuss it out in the next section.
<h3>Why did Internet Explorer start losing its popularity?</h3>
When IE 6 was released in 2001 Microsoft had almost 95% share of the market there was almost no competition for them back then!. So they just seriously stopped trying. They did nothing for IE for almost five years.
When Firefox and Webkit came around, it became really difficult for IE to keep up because IE at that time didn’t support web standards that much, on the other hand, Firefox and Webkit were very good at it. So, developers moved towards them and IE started to lose its grip on the market.
The key reason behind IE( version 6 and 7) been hated so much by developers is, it requires double the time for a developer to test his/her site on IE than it takes for testing it in Chrome and Firefox.
IE (version 6 and 7) just doesn’t display websites the way they look in Chrome and Firefox. Developers need to apply a bunch of CSS into their site to achieve a moderate look in IE.
IE also had terrible security holes which were left unnoticed for a long time.
Microsoft was late, it took 5 years for releasing of IE 7 and another 2.5 years for releasing IE 8. By this point, most people had already moved to Chrome and Firefox. For this 7.5 years, IE couldn’t match the competition from Chrome and Firefox.
Although IE 8 did come with some good CSS support and features like private browsing and tab isolation which prevented, any bad site to slow down and block the whole application.
<h3>IE is growing now!</h3>
Despite all of the above bugs. Everybody should be given a second chance. Microsoft has learned a lot from their past mistakes that they made in IE. IE 10 and 11 are very good in performance and last but not least Microsoft Edge is available which is a strong competitor of Chrome and Firefox.
Although the view of new versions of IE can still be improved, now the new versions of IE are far better in protecting against malware.
